The field of bioimaging is rapidly changing due to significant advances in electronics, information technology and more recently nanotechnology and shows a great promise for many breakthroughs in a wide range of medical applications. Since the most disease processes occur at the molecular and cellular levels on nanometers length scale, the use of molecular and cellular imaging agents made from inorganic nanoparticles to target the desired location for therapeutic and diagnostic applications is of great interest.
