The Horticultural sector has contributed around 2.8% of GDP in agriculture. Vegetables, fruits, plantation crops and spices contributed 59.8, 30.9, 6.5 and 2.1 % respectively, of total horticultural production. There is wide gap in productivity of these products in India as compared to USA, Brazil and other countries. The destructive pests and diseases are one of the major limiting factors responsible for lower productivity throughout the country. The information on pests and disease and their management on Fruits, Vegetables, Plantation & Spices Crops and Ornamental, Medicinal, Aromatic & Tuber Crops are very much scattered. This series comprising 4 volumes on Fruit Crops (Vol. 1), Vegetable Crops (Vol. 2), Ornamental, Medicinal, Aromatic & Tuber Crops (Vol.3) and Plantation & Spice Crops (Vol. 4) deals with pests (insect, mite, nematode and vertebrates pests), diseases (fungal, bacterial, viral, mycoplasma/phytoplasma disease) and nematodes and their management. The utility of the series is further enhanced by chapters like pesticides residues, allied topics in pest management and sources of critical inputs for IPM. The series is a practical guide to growers of above crops. The series can be used for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well.
